Reset phone handset

This article details how to reset a handset for the phone system. This may need to be performed at times if you experience poor call quality or crackling on the line.

You can reset the phone using either of the following methods.

Method 1: Unplug from the wall point to reset the phone

If it is easily accessible, trace back the network lead going from the phone back to the wall point.

  • Unplug the network cable from the wall point for 10 seconds. You should notice the phone display turns off during this time.
  • After 10 seconds, plug the phone back in and the phone display will turn back on.
  • It may take up to 1 minute for the phone to start up and establish a connection to the network.

Method 2: Unplug the Internet port on the phone

If the network point is hidden behind a desk and not reachable or you cannot locate it, you can follow below to reset the phone.

  • Unplug the network cable from the Internet point on the back of the phone for 10 seconds. You should notice the phone display turns off during this time.
  • After 10 seconds, plug the phone back in to the Internet port and the phone display will turn back on. It is extremely important to plug this back into the correct port as the phone will not power back on otherwise.
  • It may take up to 1 minute for the phone to start up and establish a connection to the network.

If you have two cables plugged into the phone, resetting the phone will result in the computer that is plugged into the other port to temporarily lose connection. Once the phone has been reset, the connection will be restored.
