Initial Setup for Windows 10

Before you bring your new laptop to school, please use these instructions as a guide to set up your laptop.

If you are prompted for a Language, please select US English.

Select Australia for the region, then click Yes

Select US for keyboard layout, then click Yes

On the Want to add a second keyboard layout, click on skip

Notice: User Accounts

There are 2 types of accounts with Windows 10, a local account and a Microsoft account.

A Microsoft account will enable you to use your own personal OneDrive to have your documents online as well to backup.

If you do not have a Microsoft account, do not connect your laptop to the network on this screen and click on I don’t have internet. Please go to the section “Not using Microsoft Account” below.

You may be prompted more than once to connect to a network. Choose I don’t have internet each time.

Using a Microsoft Account

Enter your email address then click on next

On the next screen (not pictured) enter your Microsoft Account Password. if you have set up 2 factor authentication, you may need to enter a code that is sent to your phone or email

Create a simple PIN so you can sign into your computer instead of using your password

Review the privacy settings for your laptop. This is beyond the scope of this document. Click on Accept when you are happy

Choose to customize your device. This is beyond the scope of this document. Click on Skip, or make selections then click on accept

This is beyond the scope of this document. Click on Do it later

You may choose to backup your files to onedrive, if so click Next, if you do not wish to have your documents uploaded to your onedrive, click on Only save files to this PC

Click on Not now

Your computer is now set up and you may bring it to school

Not using Microsoft Account

Choose a username for yourself to log into your computer. Click on Next

Create a password that you will remember, don’t make it too simple. You might want to write it down somewhere or tell your parents what it is incase you forget it.

You will be asked to create 3 security questions.

These will assist you if you forget your password.

If you forget your password and your security questions, you will not be able to get back into your computer without losing everything.

Review the privacy settings for your laptop. This is beyond the scope of this document. Click on Accept when you are happy

Click on Not now

Your computer is now set up, and you may bring it to school

If you are having any issues, feel free to bring your laptop to the IT department.
